Multiple Masculinity (In Russia) part 1

In this article, Il'inykh describes the situation of masculinity in Russia. "Data from a sociological study conducted in Novosibirsk show that in this Russian population the “real man” is expected to pursue victory, risk, struggle, leadership, and success." An interesting take in which the definition of these terms must be put into a context. Orphans primarily have female role models so the challenge is how they meet these expectations after "graduating" from the orphanage. In general terms the research discusses the tension of the suppression of emotions, men are supposed to have. I find that to be a more Western cultural trait. I see other men quite emotional in their interactions with others, even in Russia.
